Start with the workplace and the calendar

Choose an acceptable commute rather than relying only on an arrondissement name. Check the route at the times you will actually travel. If your assignment involves several offices, explain their locations and how often you need to visit each one.

Separate confirmed dates from possible extensions. Ask what happens if your assignment ends early or continues longer. Do not assume that a monthly price means you can leave whenever you choose or renew indefinitely.

Check what furnished actually includes

Ask for the equipment list for the exact apartment. Cooking facilities, storage, bedding, internet and a workable table matter more over several months than they do during a short hotel stay. Confirm whether towels and bed linen are supplied and how laundry is handled.

For relevant French residential furnished leases, minimum furniture requirements apply. These legal requirements should not be confused with optional corporate services. The official furniture checklist is useful when assessing the proposed arrangement.

Understand the agreement before signing

The appropriate contract depends on the facts, including the occupant’s situation and the use of the property. A mobility lease has eligibility requirements; being a foreign visitor or an employee does not automatically make it available. Its ordinary framework differs from specific arrangements for certain employment-oriented residences.

Ask the provider to explain the leaseholder, term, notice, deposit rules and permitted occupancy. If your employer pays, confirm whether it also signs. The French provisions on mobility leases are the primary reference for that particular contract. Do not choose a lease solely because its name sounds flexible.

Build a complete budget

Request a breakdown of rent, charges, utilities, internet, agency fees, cleaning and any mandatory extras. Identify a refundable deposit separately. Ask how consumption beyond an included allowance is handled, if relevant, and when final charges are settled.

Compare quotes covering the same dates and services. An advertisement price does not establish the final cost of your stay. Avoid transferring money before verifying the provider, the property and the contractual process. Use an identified channel for documents and payment instructions.

Arrange arrival and departure

Confirm how keys are collected, especially after an evening flight. Obtain the inventory process and the contact for reporting defects. Keep the documents and record issues promptly using the agreed procedure.

Before departure, ask about cleaning, key return, the final inspection and any deposit settlement. Leave time to resolve practical questions rather than relying on a conversation on the last day. If you need to stay longer, obtain written confirmation before the original booking ends.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent for three or six months?

Potentially, depending on availability and the appropriate contract. The requested duration alone does not determine the legal framework.

Do I need French documents for the application?

Ask the provider for the documents required for your situation. An international arrival may need a different review, but acceptance is not automatic.

Are utilities always included?

No. Check the quotation and any usage limits or reconciliation rules.

Can my family join me?

Confirm authorised occupancy, sleeping arrangements and any contractual changes before making plans.
